The last three years [Sep. 21st, 2006|11:18 am]
An application for an internship wants to know: 'The most significant achievements (beyond the demands of your degree) that you have attained over the last 3 years' I couldn't think of anything so I decided to peruse my LJ to see what I did. All I ever talked about that wasn't social/random was exams. The reason I have no significant achievements beyond the demands of my degree is that I spend the last three years trying to get onto this degree. That is my acheivement. Bloody stupid application forms.

Uni! [Oct. 7th, 2005|04:45 pm]
[Current Mood | tired]

Time, I think, for a long and comprehensive account of my time since leaving. Let us begin.

On Friday we set off at 12.30 to make the journey to Harrogate. Stuff had been squashed in car. Things checked and rechecked. Sweet obtained. We were ready to go. The journey started as usual but it soon became clear that the motorway gods and random-changing-of-roads-in-Leeds gods were not smiling upon us. What should have taken about 4.5 hours took 7. but eventually we arrived, ate, drank and beed merry then went to bed. The next day arrived bright and cheerful and we made good time to Durham, arriving about 9.30.

I found my room and lugged stuff up the three flights of stairs. Room is very nice, quite big and light. South facing. Lots of storage. No-one else was here yet so we went to get food and wander, Tom arrived a little later and found his sharing room which is dark and stuffy but does contain a nice rower. A small amount of introduction to people and lots of unpacking filled the afternoon. Then dinner and introductory talks from Vice-master and Dave the pres. Then to the bar to meet people but I didn't stay very long as was most tired and it was uber crowded.

Sunday contained tours of Durham and lunch with my tutor and tutor group. My tutor is a fourth year doing a masters in psychology. She seems very nice. The Freshers' formal was in the evening, it was really, really good, and I met more people from my floor who have become friends. We were all in our gowns and there were candles. Then there were drinking games which were amuing and involved german porn stars and stuff.

Monday morning was spend listening to talks from Fireman and Policeman and Dr and other ppl. Was slightly boring and I was v tired from late night. Registration began in the afternoon with a CompSci talk during which I felt most ill. Then a trip to physics to get my astronmy module then back to Grey to do medical registration.
There was a clubbing trip to Newcasle in the evening which I didn't manage to get ticket for which was ok as I don't think I would have enjoyed it much. Went to bar with Tom, Gemma, Laura and Katie for quiz which was fun.

Tuesday was boring, I had to queue forever to register for French. but managed to look round Grey and DSU freshers' fairs although I didn't get to sign up for everything I wanted to and so am now sending out emails begging to be let in:-)
Bar crawl in the evening which was great fun, were planning to go to Studio (night club) after but the queue was too long so we came home about midnight when I prudently showered because of:

Wenesday. We were woken at 6.30 by the fire alarm, luckily I had prior warning :-D so I didn't need shower and had put underwear and dressing gown in easy to get to places. After that it was down to Matriculation breakfast in gowns at 7.30. Everyone was half asleep from the night before. We then headed to cathederal in gowns for matriculation, cept Tom who was ill. It was very Harry Potter like, esp int he cloisters where they filmed HP. There was a short service thing official welcoming us into the uni then back we went. Then a big photo. Got campus card in evening. That was about all for wenesday.

Thurday was start of lectures (11.00 :-D) Quite interesting. Looks like I'll only have two 9.00 starts. Not much else happening in the day but there was kareoke in the evening which was most amusing.

Today was more lectures, my first French one, the french guy seems nice, found him a little hard to understand at first but after a few mins it was fine. Always take a bit to get used to a new person talking french. Spent £50 on course books and so am overdrawn, waiting for last wage to go in and save me from disgrace. Might go to debate thing tonight in rediculously expensive club thing, first is free though so might be fun. Then to a friends room for drinkies and general chat.

Tomorrow is army bop and on Sunday I'm going to do archery with Pete and Laura from CompSci, Pete teaches it. Also going to be doing bellydancing at some point! And astronomy and cheese and chocolate maybe. So many things. So that was my week. I hope you enjoyed it.

Farewells [Sep. 15th, 2005|06:43 pm]
[Current Mood | contemplative]

Hello kids, It's been a while. Not masses of interest has happened since my last post. Just loads of uni stuff of the boring form variety.
But yesterday that all changed! For last night was the final meeting of people before university. Myself and the lovely Jennie met in guildford for ice skating, which was fun but ache making, pinicking, which was foody but also included my going away pres and maybe a few tears:-(, then we found our menfolk who were pining without us and after a but more wondering we found ourselves in Wetherspoon's. Afer some nachos people started arriving, then more people and more! We ended up with nearly twenty I think, and as we were sitting next to the bar merriment soon ensued. It was a great evening but many of the people I won't see before they go which was sad making. So many people go this weekend!
I can't think of much else to say but I'm sure people know what I mean.

Results [Aug. 18th, 2005|07:45 pm]
[Current Mood | ecstatic]

I know I haven't posted in ages. It's seemed that so little has happened that it hasn't been worth it but all put together I have a fair bit to tell. Tom has been and returned from Sing, Jennie had a bbq, I went to meet Tom's family on the Isle of Wight, Babyface turned 18 (I know) Thats all the news condensed. Now for today's.

It is the fated 18th of August. I awoke prepared to go into college and find out my fate. However the early post meant my acceptance letter arrived before I left and I discovered I had indeed got into Durham :-D. This made the rest of the morning a lot less stressful so I offered moral support to my peers ;-) I got ABC, 'puting, french and lecky. Just what I needed. Tom also will be going to Durham but not Ollie:-(. Paula will be at newcastle though :-). Most ppl were happy with a few disapointments.
We then went to the pub for drink/pool/lunch and relaxed. The coming weeks will no doubt be hectic.

Leavers' ball and Westall's [Jul. 3rd, 2005|11:53 am]
[Current Mood | good]
[Current Music |Jem- They]

Thursday was the long awaited and worried about Leavers' Ball. It went ahead, in a different location, despite the fact that only a third of the tickets had been sold. Luckily it all went well. Me, Tom, Matt and Karen went in Matt's uncles's groovy car thing and arrived to find many people in Tuxes and pretty dresses. The food was nice and there were bubbles and party poppers. After we'd eaten the tables were moved to make room for dancing. Unfortunatley Tom had a headache and spent much time sitting and not dancing. Near the end of the evening Matt decided that, as nice as the food had been, he needed more, and so he took a trip to the chinese for prawn toast, prawn crackers and duck pancakes which he shared with all, resulting in the following conversation:

Ollie: I'm not even making the pancakes! I'm just shoving it all in my mouth, chicken, pancake, chicken, sauce, chicken, chicken!
Matt: Dude, it's duck.
Ollie: That too!

Wonderful.

And so the evening drew to a close and we were transported back in taxis.

Saturday was Westall's party. We arrived at six to find Matt and Westall gaming and four boxes of beer and one mini keg in the kitchen. By the time everyone arrived this became five boxes of beer, one mini keg, many bottles of Grolsh and Stella, a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of Archers Aqua.
Then John, Jason, Alan, Sexy Dan, Becky, Dan, Chris, Camilo, Athena and Rodrigo (Cammy's bro) arrived. Although possibly not in that order.
There was gaming and crazy anime till the food arrived. The food was goooooooood. I love chinese so much and my chopstick powers have not deserted me!
Most people were staying over but me and Tom went about eleven coz of lack of transport the next day. I have many amusing photos/movies. Some of which I will put on here wiht ones of my party and other things when I can be bothered to upload them to photobucket.
That is all for today kids. Who knows when I will post again....

Examless [Jun. 29th, 2005|12:43 pm]
[Current Mood | listless]

My last exam was yesterday and now I have nothing to do...
Just waiting for results and whiling away the summer days. I plan to learn Java but the book I want costs a weeks wages, hence I have reasoned that working more hours will make the book cheaper. That will take up some of the time at least.
Leavers ball is on Thursday and Westall's party is Saturday but after that there's nothing happening till August when Matt's party, Babyface's party, going away with Tom and results happen in a short space of time.
Sigh....

Birthday Meal [Jun. 27th, 2005|02:24 pm]
[Current Mood | happy]

Tis monday today and as such time to reflect on the weekend. I'll start with Friday as it was mildly eventful. The very hot weather we've been having finally broke. I was in college for the purpose of form signage and book returning. I went home on the bus (accompanied by the illustrious Toby)during an electric storm which I enjoyed a lot(I'm crazy like that)
By the time I got home it had died down a bit to a few drops of rain and some wind. However when me and Mum went to Petersfield to get stuff for the party the storm returned with a vengeange. We were in Curry's when the power first went, imagine, if you will, the Swoooom sound of a wall of TVs dying. Then onto Waitrose where the generators were struggling a tad and the power went down every few minutes. Still we braved this all for Roo's bread rolls.
Saturday arrived and much preperation was begun. I had to iron a huge tablecloth and arrange flowers and the like. Mum did lots of cooking and secret cake preparation while I watched wimbledon and wasn't allowed in the kitchen. We picked Tom up and brought him here with his tux. We both went to get changed (grr, bow tie) and then waited for the others. Ian arrived first, followed by Westall. Then Anna and Roo, then Paula and Jeni, and finally, somewhat late, Ollie. We watched Tennis and chatted for a bit then took ourselves to the table where a huge meal was eaten by all. There was then watching of amusing pictures on the computer and The Dreamstone (Thankyou Wessie:-)) on the TV. My cake was revealed to be a hippy van! There was champange and toasting and the like and then people made their ways home. And that is the story of that :-)

Eighteen [Jun. 21st, 2005|09:18 pm]
[Current Mood | happy]

Today was my 18th birthday. I recieved:
Money
A digital camera
A locket
A mini bottle of champange
A wireless keyboard and mouse
A weird thingy that plays happy birthday
A box
A bracelet
A glass
Two bags
A watch
A calendar
Plastic bowling set
Plus whatever people give me on Saturday.

All in all it was a good day.
I got up early for present opening. Mum's surprise was the camera, this was very welcome, I've been playing with it all day. Then I hurried to college where Tom gave me the locket. It was wrapped in a series of food boxed and newspaper which was all most amusing to those watching me fight my way into it. It's a silver heart and very pretty. This was followed by Jeni's pressie which involved the champagne:-D but then I had to make my way towards computing for the joyful exam. Thankfully this went pretty well, at least I think it did. Well enough to no longer worry me greatly.
After the exam cake was had, Jeni had made a huuuuuuuge chocolatey monster of a cake which was enjoyed by all (pictures will follow) and I drank my champagne from my glass :-D
Ian then presented me with a plastic bowling set which will keep me amused for hours no doubt :-)
Then I was accompanied to the pub by Tom, Ian, Ollie, Karen and Andy for a quick drink (yay) before being picked up and whisked home with Tom.
After a thankyou call to the Harrogate branch of grandparents it was time for a visit to the others and so we took ourselves to Selsey where more money was procurred and much fun was had watching the tennis. Grandad gave Tom much in the way of drinkage (as he always does to people) I had some shnapps (I'd forgotten how strong the real stuff was) and we all had sparkling wine. It was a nice afternoon from which we came away somewhat tipsy.
We dropped the child home so she could watch tennis then went to get an indian which we then enjoyed at home. Henman won.
After playing round with my camera some more it was time to take Tom home so that we did and now here I am.
That was my birthday. I will update after Saturday.

Procrastinating [Jun. 13th, 2005|01:32 pm]
[Current Mood | busy]

The revision season is truly upon us and with it the ritual avoidance tactics hence this update. A brief account of my recent life as far back as I can remember shall follow.
Monday 6th was the day of the magic draft which happened enventually after Matt and Tom's bus didn't turn up, them arriving an hour late, and Matt not giving Gerald the deposit so we had to fork out more money to buy from evil computerama guy who is a bastard. Eventually we got things going and me and Tom went out in the first round. Babyface went on to win but by that point we'd left coz college was boring and nothing was happening.
First exam was M1 on the 7th, it being maths meant that many other Maths exams were happening concurrently and so plenty of people were there to amuse me. Mikes wierd computer thats not really a laptop amused us all with worms and risk. The exam was better than expected although expectations were not high so that is not to say that it went well.
Wenesday was a Lecky re-sit. Not many people in as it was mostly first year exams but Nick and Andy and people were there to talk to. The exam was easy, as it should have been so hopefully I picked up a few more marks than last time. It was a re-sit I didn't really need to do in the end but it all helps.
Thursday I accompanied Tom and Westall to Pfield for finding out of tux prices. This didn't take very long so we bought food from Waitrose and had a picnic on the heath. I got rather sunburnt but it was all fun.
Friday I attempted to revise but had woken up with a slightly sore throat which got worse throughout the day. Saturday was the carnival and Tom came over but I was feeling really bad so apart from a trip down to Tescos to beg the next day off we stayed in. Yesterday I took advantage of the lack of work to attempt to sleep off the cold. By last night I was feeling a bit better and today I am merely mucusy rather than achey and temperaturey.
I've attempted to do some revision for the comms paper, on the basis that I will own control because of the microprocessoryness that it embodies. Hopefully it will all go well.
Later I'm going to pfield for food to practise birthday meal. Better discuss champagne and such with Mum. Although the meal has been much on my mind I keep forgetting how close my actual birthday is. All the exams have not afforded me the time to ponder what I will be recieving from family and friends. Mum has apparently got me a present which is a surprise. It's been so long since I had one of those for a birthday so that's somewhat unsettling.
Ooo I don't know if I've informed the world that Tom is working at a pub. He pulls pints. It's all very amusing.
So thats all the news for now. Suit buying (cheaper than tuxes) is planned for Wenesday with T and W and Lecky is tomorrow. If I deem any of this interesting enough I shall update on it.
Now get back to your revision.

Chaotic Neutral Elf Mage Bard [Jun. 3rd, 2005|04:03 pm]
Chaotic Neutral Elf Mage Bard

Alignment:
Chaotic Neutral characters are unstable, and frequently insane. They believe in disorder first and foremost, and will thus strive for that disorder in everything they do. This means that they will do whatever seems 'fun' or 'novel' at any given time.

Race:
Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.

Primary Class:
Mages harness the magical energies for their own use. Spells, spell books, and long hours in the library are their loves. While often not physically strong, their mental talents can make up for this.

Secondary Class:
Bards are the entertainers. They sing, dance, and play instruments to make other people happy, and, frequently, make money. They also tend to dabble in magic a bit.
